Patent infringement case against Ericsson
There is a comprehensive new report of the massive GSM-TDMA patent infringement case against Ericsson.
telecomtechstocks.com
The period in question is 1988 to now and the suit contends Ericsson has knowingly and maliciously infringed on patents on the core technology for every GSM and TDMA digital cell phone and related base station Ericsson has ever produced.
The suit asks for actual damages of a billion dollars or so, as well as treble that amount for "malice" (encouraging others to also violate the patents, etc.).
This report gives the background for the litigation and includes the entire transcript of the recently completed public hearing in federal court (Dallas). It also includes reports from persons who attended the federal court proceedings in April.
Some observers have suggested that Ericsson is purposely avoiding the sharing of information about this infringement with its shareholders, except as absolutely required by law. That may or may not be true.
I believe that the transcript of the federal hearings (included in this report) provide an inside look at the lengths Ericsson management will go to to avoid paying legitimate royalties and licensing fees.

Disclosure: I am an Ericsson shareholder. I also own shares in the American firm suing Ericsson (InterDigital Communications Corp (Nasdaq:IDCC). I am not impartial. I have followed this litigation for a period of time up to this pivotal moment and have formed a personal judgement that the odds are 8 to 2 that Ericsson will lose this case big time. I believe that those of us who own Ericsson shares should be much better informed about the possible implications, pro and con, of a setlement or judgement. When I post, it is almost always on IDCC-related boards, but occasionally on other boards related to firms in which I personally own shares (Qualcomm, Cisco, Nortel, Nokia, Motorola, Ericsson). More frequently, I lurk on these boards. This post is offered as information only, not to start an argument with the people I admire who post here. I am not short Ericsson, never have been, and have no intention to be short Ericsson in the future. |
