Expose Your Secret Admirer's Hiding Places with BindView's bv-Control for
Microsoft Exchange; Product Immediately Assesses Magnitude of Problem for
Companies Hit by the ILOVEYOU Virus

Business/Technology Editors

HOUSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 4, 2000--BindView Corporation
(NASDAQ:BVEW), a leading supplier of IT risk management solutions,
today announced a free, downloadable pre-packaged query for its
bv-Control for Microsoft Exchange customers to assist in the
assessment and remediation of damage done to companies hit by the
"ILOVEYOU" virus. Additionally, BindView is offering free evaluation
copies of its bv-Control for Microsoft Exchange products to companies
who do not currently have a product installed to assess the damage of
this most recent virus.
For companies who were greeted by ILOVEYOU e-mails as they logged
on to their computers this morning, BindView's pre-packaged query
allows IT managers to:

--Perform an analysis and create a report showing the extent of
the damage.

--Determine which users' mailboxes and folders have been hit --
and how hard they have been hit.

--Determine who has opened the e-mail and sent it to others

--Determine where the infected e-mails are coming from - both
inside and outside the company

The new virus, which first appeared in the Philippines, originates
in e-mail entitled "I love you." Once the attachment is launched, the
virus, also nicknamed "Killer from Manila," or "Love Bug", sends
copies of the same e-mail to everyone listed in the user's address
book. The well-publicized Melissa virus operated on the same
principle, infecting about a million computers, clogging whole
networks in the United States and causing $80 million in damage.
"For companies whose anti-virus software missed the ILOVEYOU
virus, BindView's bv-Control for Microsoft Exchange can help assess
the extent of the damage and identify those individuals who have sent
infected e-mail," said Bob Tesh, BindView's Product Marketing Manager.
"In other words, for those of you who were `looking for love in all
the wrong places' this morning, BindView can be your assessment and
remediation solution."

Why Virus Scanners Alone Don't Provide Adequate Protection

New e-mail viruses, such as the recent ILOVEYOU virus, always seem
to slip through the control of even the most advanced anti-virus
scanners for Microsoft Exchange. While companies can usually get an
update to their virus scanners to protect them from future attacks, in
many cases the damage is already done. Companies need to assess the
extent of the damage and eliminate the problem. They also may want to
notify the people who keep sending out infected e-mail. bv-Control for
Microsoft Exchange assists in this assessment and remediation effort.
To get your free, downloadable copy of the pre-packaged query for
bv-Control for Microsoft Exchange, or an evaluation copy of bv-Control
for Microsoft Exchange with the pre-packaged query built-in, go to
