Regarding the lack of movement in the stock, it appears to be tied to the total lack of volume. The stock has traded less than a thousand shares a day over the last few days. In addition, analysts have predicted that the growth over the next few quarters will be relatively flat. They do predict, however, that growth will return to historic rates by the end of 1997. Also throwing water on the fire are the MMs, setting a atrocious $1 spread. I spoke to a NASDAQ guy about this yesterday. He told me that companies can exercise some level of control over the spread by putting pressure on the MMs. I do not know how true this is, and seems unlikely in the case of a company as small as KVHI, which is glad just to have more than one MM.

Finally, the annual report noted some interesting growth prospects for the TACNAV system. Apparently, KVHI dominates the market for this system, and only 2-3% of the armored vehicle market has been penetrated. From what I understand about how foreign militaries purchase technology, they often won't do so until the new technology has been accepted by a major army. The US army's picking up its option on the TACNAV contract should help establish acceptance. The annual report predicts that new TACNAV contracts will be entered in the latter half of 1997.
