Jules - Re: "Is it a coincidence that Lou selected this day, when Intel announced its Pentium II, to hold his conference, or am I just becoming too cynical. "

Ask yourself this - When was the last big Media Event in which IBM launched a new family of Mainframes?

Intel designs and manufactures most of today's computers - Intel's customers make these into useable systems (PC manufacturers).

IBM must realize this. It must be like older parents discovering that their children have grown up and are raising their own families ans don't need them anymore.

But, IBM still needs to maintain its image (of past grandeur). So, stealing a little thunder from their "competition" might be one way to perpetuate the past.

I liked your comment about "this years'long term strategy" for IBM. Let's save a copy of the report on our disks and re-read it after next year's long range strategy is revealed.
