$2 million contract with Canadian Passport Office

AIT Advanced Information Technologies
Thursday May 8 1997News Release

Mr Ronald Blair reports Canada's new passport issuance system, OSCAR, is currently under development through a cooperative partnership between AIT Corp, the world leader in travel document technology, and the Canadian Passport Office. This new contract phase is part of a continuing technology enhancement partnership between AIT and the Canadian government for the re-engineering of the Canadian passport issuance process. This new passport issuance system, OSCAR, or Optimized System for the Capture, Archival and Retrieval, will be a secure, user-friendly, distributed system for travel document issuance, retrieval and updates. OSCAR will enable the user to access and process applications for travel documents more efficiently, allow for the automation of routine passport operations and reduce the need for paper copy transmission of documents. The new technology will provide excellent security features, and will allow all issuance centres across Canada to instantly share passport application information. AIT's vision of supplying innovative technology for a safer world consists of two business areas: identification and security systems in which the company is the world's leading supplier of software based systems for the issuance and inspection of machine-readable travel documents; and risk management products where the company supplies digital recording and video telesurveillance technology.
