I think it's been adequately proven that females can indeed be curmudgeonly. (Though I think usually the "b" word is applied in those cases...)

I think we're exempt from the no-grinnee rule...

I'd check with cuf about that. He might turn this into a moderated thread and ban us from it.

Well, personally I find grinnees and other emoticons carry substance as well as decoration in that they convey tone-of-voice, facial expression, and other elements of evolved communication. OTOH, true curmudgeons speak in growls with only scowls on their faces; the only appropriate emoticon would be the frowny-face :-( and it would be redundant to use it all the time.

Curmudgeons hate redundancy.
