Metastorm Files $100 Million Suit Against Gartner Group

OREM, Utah, May 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Metastorm, Inc. announced it has filed a lawsuit in U.S. District Court in Washington DC against the Gartner Group. The suit alleges defamation and libel in reference to an article titled, ``Novell Quits the E-forms market: Bad News for InForms users'', which was published by Gartner on 2/26/97.

Metastorm's suit claims that Gartner published this article without taking reasonable steps to research the truthfulness of statements contained in the article. The article contained numerous statements that were false, disparaging, and defamatory, which were injurious and denigrating to Metastorm and InForms. Furthermore, Gartner published this article about Metastorm for the unlawful purpose of causing economic harm and without justifiable cause or right. This suit has been filed as a result of the reckless disregard for the truth, and manner in which this article was published.

As soon as Metastorm learned of this article it contacted Gartner and pointed out the false statements in the article and requested an immediate retraction. Neither contact listed in the original press-release announcing the Metastorm/Novell relationship or anyone else from Novell or Metastorm were contacted prior to publishing the article. Despite numerous requests and exchange of documents Gartner failed to comply with Metastorm's request.
