Baird, Thanks for your overview of ALSC. You seem to have spent some time learning the company and its business.

Why are they so late entering the flash market? Why are they targeting low capacity flash solutions? Do they have the know-how to succeed or will it be a trial-and-error situation? Why is capacity currently underutilized given the scampering for fab capacity within the semiconductor industry at large?

alsc.com

They are not planning for production until Q3 of 2000. Volume production might not be expected until what, Q1 of 2001?

here are two of their listed flash patents...

*FLASH MEMORY ARCHITECTURE THAT UTILIZES A TIME-SHARED ADDRESS BUS SCHEME AND SEPARATE MEMORY CELL ACCESS PATHS FOR SIMULTANEOUS READ/WRITE OPERATIONS

*SINGLE TRANSISTOR FLASH EPROM CELL AND METHOD OF OPERATION

With the CEO on the BOD of UMC you would think he could recruit someone experienced in flash manufacture to help them with their engineering.

Just my 2½
