I don't know.

I know many European countries see us as uncivilized, because of capital punishment and our freedom to own and bear arms. I think we are often seen as backward educationally as well. The same kind of provincial thinking seen on this board (America is the BEST place to grow up, yada yada yada) infects a lot of individuals in the rest of the world as well. Nationalism is, and always has been, a very common disease and as far as I know is not restricted to any continent or country. I think that is all this case represents. I think it is a fabulous testament to our way of life if American courts handle these issues more decently, and with more respect for the citizens of other countries- especially citizens whose way of life may be different from our own.
