L. L. Knickerbocker in License Agreement With Universal For the `Edith Head Collection'
Premiere Hollywood Costume Designer's Movie Costumes Accessories and Dolls To Be Distributed by LLK
RANCHO SANTA MARGARITA, Calif., May 8 /PRNewswire/ -- The L. L. Knickerbocker Co., Inc. (Nasdaq:KNIC) today announced it has entered into a Merchandising License Agreement with Universal Studios Consumer Products Group, granting the Company rights to manufacture, sell and distribute collectible dolls dressed in fashion reproductions inspired by the Edith Head Collection, consisting of movie costumes and accessories designed by Edith Head.
Edith Head has international acclaim as Hollywood's premiere costume designer and trend setter. Ms. Head's creations and style influenced what women in the world wore. Her career spanned 50 years, with over 1,200 screen credits, 35 Academy Award nominations and eight Oscars. Ms. Head dressed the best and brightest stars of Hollywood, including Mae West, Marlene Dietrich Ingrid Bergman, Grace Kelly, Marilyn Monroe, Elizabeth Taylor, Audrey Hepburn, Ginger Rogers, Fred Astaire, Robert Redford and Paul Newman.
According to Unity Marketing, an industry trade publication, the collectible doll industry is about a $1.5 billion industry. The Company plans to create a collection of high quality porcelain dolls based on the most popular film costumes. The first series will include highlights from one or more of Ms. Head's eight Oscar-winning films. The collection will be previewed in the fourth quarter of 1997, with an active market launch planned in the first quarter of 1998.
In December 1996, Universal Studios Consumer Products Group acquired the exclusive merchandising and marketing rights to the Edith Head Collection from the Edith Head estate. ``Edith Head's sense of style and artistry created the glamorous essence of Hollywood,'' said NancyJane Goldston, Senior Vice President Marketing and Merchandising, Universal Studios Consumer Products Group. ``We are excited to be able to showcase the incomparable artistry that Edith brought to the craft of costume design.'' The Universal Studios Consumer Products Group plans to showcase the talents of the prolific designer through a variety of licensing and merchandising opportunities, including apparel, jewelry, collectibles and promotions.
