the reason i keep chastising SGI for stooping to introducing the Octane with two year old graphics, and trying to use marketing to gloss over this fact is because i think SGI strength is in staying way ahead of any other platform in this area. They own and drive OpenGL. which is the "Postscript" of 3D. they have two generations of graphics on the street beyond what's in the Octane and the I2 Impact. they own MIPS. to not put full RE1 graphics in a nice silicon package and add at least 16 megs of texture capability, leaves a window for NT ursurpers to climb through. Noone can win the CPU contest longterm. Along with IO and all the other factors that make a workstation more than a pc, SGI must use it's strongest card with impunity. I hope all the cowards at SGI have "left to pursue other interests". Go chew em' up, Ed.
