So, if growth rates return to historic rates by the end of 1997, we should be just fine. A flat quarter of two is a very long time for the institutional investor who has to produce results fast. They'll come back when it's time. My horizon is a couple of years out, so it doesn't matter.

My broker said that "they make the spread large on thinly traded stocks so that large and small orders can be accomodated without changing the bid and ask". I don't believe this myself. If this were true, then it would imply that big orders get a better price. I think the MMs just loose interest in a thinly traded stock, set a big spread, and leave it on autopilot.

I'm wondering how small caps will do after the start of the second half of the year. My hope is that portfolio managers will want to start showing more than the same old nifty fifty.
