Hi all; Jimminies! Dell says RDRAM runs at 566MHz, not
800MHz. I can't believe this! They must be running the
memory at 4x the processor bus speed of 133MHz. That would
make the simplest memory interface, but all the stuff we see
about the great performance of these systems is silly. Dell
must have made a mistake somewhere along here...

Go to the following link, go past the "Processors and
Chipset" section and then click on one of the three blue
"RDRAM" links in the Memory section.
dell.com

You get the following information on memory:

Peak memory bandwidth is 33% greater with RDRAM than with
PC100 SDRAM

Model: XPS B XPS T L Series
------ ----- ----- --------
Memory Type RDRAM SDRAM SDRAM
Slot 2 RIMM 3 DIMM 2 DIMM
...
Frequency 266MHz 100MHz 100MHz

I have to suspect that this is just a Dell technical
writing error, they really can't be sending out such
pieces of junk. There is another explanation, however.
It could be that Dell was unable to get -700 and -800
RDRAM to consistently run in a mass market PC, so they
derated the systems down to 566MHz and the simple 4x
processor multiple. Then, with the high end, they send
in the technicians to more thoroughly test the systems at
800MHz.

If this is the case, then the buyers of those PC566 machines
really got toasted, and my comment that we wouldn't see
Rambus in mass market PCs (from last September) still
stands.
