(NYSE: CPQ). Under the agreement, Compaq has made a $25 million commitment to ClearData.net, including a $5 million equity investment and $20 million in debt financing. In addition, ClearData will design and build its data centers, points of presence, network and internal infrastructure on Compaq hardware, to include servers, storage solutions, desktops, laptops and related services. ClearData provides a complete suite of nationwide products and services ranging from application and server hosting to high-speed Internet access and managed services. In addition, Compaq Services will provide professional services to support Compaq Tru64 UNIX, Linux and Microsoft Windows 2000/NT platforms. This agreement is one of several strategic partnerships that privately-held ClearData has formed over the last 90 days as it aggressively builds out a national broadband network. The company recently announced a 20-year, $182 million agreement with Williams Communications Group (NYSE: WCG) to purchase fiber-optic network capacity and services. In a related transaction, Williams Communications acquired a 19.9 percent equity position in ClearData.net.
