A Cuban college baseball player, here on a "cultural exchange"/public relations trip escaped to freedom this weekend. Check out the coverage and the college's reaction. Also notice the PC choice of reportor to write the story. A liberal laugh riot:


A Cuban baseball player who abandoned [ed. nice choice of words] his teammates shortly after their arrival in the Twin Cities over the weekend should rejoin the group, the University of St. Thomas said Sunday.

The St. Paul-based university, sponsoring the five-day visit of the collegiate Equipo Caribe or Team Caribbean, has publicly sided with its Cuban guests in calling Mario Chaoui's flight a mistake.

``We would like to hear from him and have him rejoin the group,'' said university spokesman Doug Hennes. ``He should rejoin the group and be part of the rest of the week.''

Hennes said the university is heeding the Cubans' ``sentiments on this,'' even though the Immigration and Naturalization Service has urged school officials to remain neutral on the issue.

No St. Thomas players stayed in Cuba when the team was down there last month ] team captain Osmar Fernandez said. ``We don't know why (Chaoui) has made this decision.
