SAN-to-WAN (wide area network) connectivity solutions. Joint testing was recently completed, certifying the interoperability of
Gadzoox' Capellix switch and CNT's UltraNet Open Systems Gateway. For end-users seeking to implement remote storage
management or disaster tolerance systems which connect multiple SANs over extended distances, this certified solution provides a
fast, economical, and interoperable alternative to existing methods. Unlike solutions that suffer from the high cost and limited
distance of private "dark fiber" connections, SAN-to-WAN solutions support unlimited distances at lower cost since they can utilize
existing ATM networks.

In the emerging phases of the market, SAN deployments have been driven by specific business application needs such as online

enterprises and service providers that need to interconnect remote SAN islands for the purpose of data replication and restoration.
While recent developments in Fibre Channel technology have enabled metropolitan area distances of up to 80 kilometers,
solutions for WAN distances are still needed. The testing work between Gadzoox and CNT addresses this need through the use of
ATM-based WANs as the interconnect between SAN islands.
