Kramer,

Igen test is 6-8 hours from sample to result, with a 50 samples/hour capacity. Unfortunately the link to the ARS article that gave a detailed description of the test seems to be broken.

Link in case it ever revives was:

craw.arserrc.gov

My recollection is that the 8 hour figure included a confirmatory test. It is also substantially more automated than the neog test, which is described below:

When combined with Neogen's proprietary REVEAL 8-Hour media, Alert for E. coli O157 allows testers to go from sample to result in only 9 hours.

...

Alert for E. coli O157 is a double antibody (sandwich) ELISA utilizing specific anti-E. coli O157 antibodies coated to microwells. The controls and samples are added to the antibody wells. After an incubation, the wells are washed with a wash buffer and conjugate is added. After a second incubation and wash, substrate is added, which develops a blue color. A final incubation is followed by the addition of the stop solution, which turns the blue color to yellow. Results are read using a microwell plate or strip reader by comparing the optical densities of the samples to the optical densities of the negative and positive controls.
