Taht wasn't my emphasis. I was talking more about the mentally disabled, who suffer tremendously.
Here's the rub: your typical schizophrenic, during rare lucid moments, wishes fervently for a high-enough level of function to be able to live unsupervised, clean&fed, perhaps even hold a job. (S)he has no hope of being a "productive" participant in the economy. Yet, he suffers terribly. I find it hard to believe that a mkt-governed society would take the initiative to support the mentally ill. Easier to cast them off as irredeemable.

Detail audit: "Phenomena" is a plural.
