ÿ JDB,
I hope you stick around, as I have noticed your intelligent posts elsewhere. I too mostly lurk, except during trying times as of late.
I'm glad to see others have seen J&P for what they are, and are willing to say so.
From your profile it seems like you work mostly with G&K stocks, right? If I may ask, what kind of options strategies do you use?
Best, Jeff Smith
Thanks, Jeff. I've tried both call selling and put selling. My call selling has had very marginal successes, as I've tried to sell calls on stocks that I wouldn't mind selling at a certain price, only to have the stock run up and having to buy the call back at a loss. (I've also had some called away). I've been somewhat more successful at put selling (especially when the market was a bit more bullish!). I've tended to sell puts on stocks that I would like to own (or own more of)...then, I either get the stock at a discount from what it's selling for on the day I sell the put, or I get the premium. I also tend to not utilize too much margin room...never go out further than 20% of margin (preferable no more than 10%).
I've also bought calls a few times and have always lost my money. (Though I bought some SEBL leaps which are doing okay...) I would probably be better off just buying and holding (which I do with most of my assets), but this keeps things a little more interesting! :-)
