IBM plans high-speed chips for telecoms
news.cnet.com
"IBM today will announce it has signed deals to build high-speed processors for telecommunications equipment makers Alcatel and Nortel Networks."

IBM and Network processors, an old story at this stage. We have suspected that IBM's chips ran on VxWorks for a long time now. However this is the first time I have seen WindRiver or VxWorks actually mentioned on the IBM Network processor Website !!! (see below).

Reference platform design (Acrobat file)
chips.ibm.com

Extracts:

Reference Platform Developer?s Code Kit
The Reference Platform Developer?s Code Kit provides the source code for the Reference Platform Router Load described in the previous section. Network solution providers can build upon this code to provide value-add applications. The Tornado development platform including the VxWorks operating system necessary to rebuild the Router Load must be licensed separately from Wind River Systems, Inc.

Software and Hardware Requirements
One of the following operating systems is required for creating an executable Network Processor Reference Platform Router Load:

?Microsoft, Windows NT Version 4. 0
?Windows, 95 Version 4.0
?Windows 98 Version 4.10

You will also need to license Wind River Systems Tornado development platform.
