Cambridge Technology Partners Helps Tandy/RadioShack Establish RadioShack Online
CAMBRIDGE, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 8, 2000--
Leading Electronics Retailer Partners with Cambridge to
Drive Internet Throughout the Tandy Enterprise
Cambridge Technology Partners, Inc. (NASDAQ:CATP) (Cambridge), a global e-integration services provider, today announced that it has helped Tandy Corporation (NYSE:TAN) to establish RadioShack Online, a comprehensive intranet for the company's 25,000 sales associates that will enhance customer service and ultimately increase product sales. Cambridge worked with Tandy/RadioShack to develop the proof of concept in 100 RadioShack stores and as a result, RadioShack is now rolling out the intranet to all 5,000 company-owned stores, with completion expected by mid-2001.
Tandy/RadioShack initially turned to Cambridge to help integrate an intranet backbone into its legacy environment. The project was such a success that Tandy/RadioShack partnered with Cambridge to enhance the intranet with administrative and store applications, helping the company keep its full and part-time store associates up-to-date on the company's products and services, with online access to all product, service and customer information.
Intranet Makes Tangible Business Impact
"With so many company-owned stores, our biggest challenge is to keep our full and part-time associates abreast of the latest information on our comprehensive suite of products and services," said Evelyn Follit, senior vice president and CIO, Tandy Corporation/RadioShack. "Cambridge was the clear choice for helping us leverage the Internet to better manage the RadioShack chain and ultimately, deliver a better customer experience. Cambridge stood out for having the expertise in Internet technology and the ability to manage large, challenging projects. We're seeing the results of our Cambridge partnership already."
With the new system, store associates will have instant access to product information. In the past, extensive training was required to familiarize sales staff with all products in a category. This has been especially difficult with parts and accessories that involve thousands of items. The new system will permit sales associates to quickly and easily retrieve product information on the site simply by entering the manufacturer or model number. The result will be faster service for the customer and an easier job for the sales representative.
"Working with Tandy Corporation/RadioShack has been a very rewarding experience because the company is committed to leveraging the Internet in all areas of its business," said Brendan McLaughlin, vice president of Interactive Solutions at Cambridge Technology Partners. "Together, we will eventually `wire' the entire family of RadioShack employees, creating a forum for sharing information and a self-service environment that promotes empowerment and efficiency. All of this will translate into better performance for RadioShack and better service for its customers."
