I am still of the impression that it is illegal to short your own stock as an insider or even as an employee. The reason I say that is I remeber signing a "conducts agreement " when I worked with an Oil company and it specifically had that clause.It also stated I could not profit from inside info but it talked abit shorting in particular BUT I have also seen in the paper that insiders have shorted their own stock against options so I dont know the answer
