You're a real clip and paste artiste, Ruff. You left out the reason for the bigger than projected loss: growth. I know it's an alien and threatening concept to many US telecom firms... but apparently it has now been documented to be attacking one American operator.

"VoiceStream Wireless had 1.8 million customers at the end of the first quarter 2000, comprised of 1.3 million monthly subscribers and over 500 thousand prepaid customers. This represents an increase of 334% over total customers at the end of the first quarter of 1999."

There are companies that post suprising losses because of lack of sales... and there are companies that post surprise losses because of the problems involved in handling 300% growth.

This is another thing you can blaim on Evil Europeans - they introduced a digital standard that has unleashed actual subscriber growth on an innocent American company. Is there no end to the devious iniquity of the GSM touts? Couldn't Jesse Helms shut down Voicestream before it starts to threaten the American tradition of 30% subscriber growth?
