Hello Peter

For others, here is the release.

SOUTHERNERA RESOURCES LIMITED - KLIPSPRINGER UNDERGROUND
BULK SAMPLING RESULTS; PROJECT/MINE MANAGER APPOINTED

TORONTO, May 8 /CNW/ - SouthernEra Resources Limited is pleased to
announce bulk sampling results from the underground workings on the Leopard
(Main) Fissure at its Klipspringer Project in South Africa. The sample
consisted of 188 tonnes of primary kimberlite representing approximately 27
meters of strike length of fissure, with an average width of 1.2 m. To date
364 diamonds with a total weight of 152.73 carats have been recovered,
corresponding to a grade of 0.81 carats/tonne. This is similar to the 0.84
carat/tonne grade reported previously (press release dated October 10, 1996)
for weathered primary kimberlite taken from the open cut on the fissure. The
average size of the recently recovered stones is 0.42 carats. The quality of
the diamonds appears to be similar to those contained in the 4832 carat parcel
recently valued at an average of $106.74 per carat (press release dated April
16, 1997).
The five largest diamonds recovered weighed 5.70, 4.76, 4.32, 3.74, and
3.14 carats respectively. Approximately 45% of the diamonds (by weight) are
larger than 1 carat. The increase in average stone size from 0.32 (in previous
sampling) to 0.42 carats, and the proportion of diamonds larger than 1 carat
(from 28% to 45%) in the latest sample is believed to reflect incomplete
liberation of diamonds in the recently-commissioned crushing circuit. The
circuit has been modified, and it is expected that substantially better
liberation of small diamonds will be obtained in processing later samples.
The underground adit along the Leopard fissure is progressing well, with
total advance along strike of 120 m as of April 30. Mapping of the kimberlite
indicates a minimum width of 0.8 m, a maximum of at least 1.8 m, and an
average width of approximately 1.4 m.
The Company continues to be encouraged by the progress of the bulk
sampling program, the continuing high indicated grade of the fissure, and its
better than expected width. Mining and processing of kimberlite from the adit
is continuing, and further results will be released as they become available.

MR. DAVID GADD-CLAXTON APPOINTED MANAGER OF KLIPSPRINGER PROJECT

The Company is also pleased to announce that Mr. David Gadd-Claxton has
been appointed as Manager of the Klipspringer Project. In this role he will
have overall responsibility for the project during underground bulk sampling,
feasibility study, and development. Mr. Gadd-Claxton has more than 16 years
experience in open pit and underground mining, and for the last eleven years
has worked in progressively more responsible roles in diamond mining. His
experience has included supervision of the bulk sampling program and
feasibility study at the open-pit Venetia Mine where he then went on to become
Project Manager. As well, David has served as Underground Manager and General
Manager on two other large diamond mines in South Africa.
We are extremely pleased to welcome Mr. Gadd-Claxton to SouthernEra, and
feel that his extensive experience will be a major asset to the company.

I also spoke to Lee Barker their VP in Toronto. He indicated that unless their McKay Lake/Back Lake drilling, geophysical and geochemical sampling program results in substantive findings material to the interests of the company and shareholders, they may well not make any (progress) announcements until the program is completed.

If the past is any indication, approximately 3 weeks passed between the drilling confirmation of the Nicholas Bay kimberlite and its public announcement (NR).

As I have said, this is a very conservative company and they will not blow their own horn for the sake of being heard.

Could possibly be a bit of a wait for NWT news unless a 4 carat gem falls out of a core.

Regards
