In standing up to standard fragmentation, he's making a stand for the people of Latin America. Why shouldn't they get an opportunity to enjoy the same rapid subscriber growth as Turkey and China - created by a nationwide standard hooking up these countries to the global family of GSM markets and manufacturers?

I think you've got it a little backwards....Latin America is already fragmented. This would only make it more fragmented. I would assume people in Brazil might actually be more likely to use their phones in Buenos Aires and Mexico City, rather than Istanbul.

Also I think you might want to take a look at the CDMA growth rate in South America....especially the Brazilian operators. I dont think that Telesp is taking a backseat to anybody when it comes to digital subscriber growth.

I give up....for the life of me, I cant figure out how many subs VSTR added during the quarter. I think the estimate was for something like 150,000....
