I often move more slowly when involved with others. On my own, I move
more quickly. We do miss things by waiting, and we also gain things by
being forced to wait.
I see a definite female bias here. Do women consider how their control
of a relationship is seen by men? Would they enjoy being analyzed and
tested to the extent that we are? If I am a thinking man, that
understands what is required in the relationship, might I not want to
be treated with respect and not like a child? What is true love? There
is desire, a decision, joining, commitment. There are no guarantees.
Commitment is far more real, and important, than marriage. Here's one
of my favorite quotes: "the secret marriage vow is never spoken, the
secret marriage never can be broken" (Sting).
You are right, you can't stop your boys. I say that if they can't be
stopped, then by definition they are ready. Instead, give them all the
love and support that you would for any other major life event.
