Cogeco Selects AM Communications For Network Integrity Solutions
NEW ORLEANS, May 9, 2000 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Cogeco Cable, Inc. announced today that it has selected AM Communications, Inc. (OTC:AMCM) as its supplier of network integrity solutions for monitoring and managing its multi-vendor broadband networks.
Initial system deployments will begin in Ontario, Canada, where Cogeco operates 34 broadband distribution networks serving more than 540,000 subscribers using equipment from General Instrument/Motorola, Alpha Technologies, and C-COR.net. In addition to managing multi-vendor network elements, AM Communications will provide solutions to collect and integrate information from legacy status monitoring systems. To ensure Cogeco's technical and schedule requirements are met, AM and its Canadian distributor, Trispec Communications, will provide local product and system integration support services.
"This opportunity with Cogeco goes beyond the traditional customer - supplier relationship," commented Harry Tankin, President of AM Communications. "The solutions that we are delivering to Cogeco not only represent AM's strengths in the management of multi-vendor networks, but demonstrate our company's ability to provide skills and expertise to protect Cogeco's investment in older, proprietary monitoring platforms. Our goal is to become a solutions partner with Cogeco to ensure that investments made by the customer are protected and leveraged for future use," said Tankin.
"Cogeco selected AM Communications based upon its open OmniStat(TM) management architecture and the value AM places upon non-proprietary solutions," said Paul Padbury, Network Management Center Director for Cogeco Cable, Inc. "Beyond delivering hardware and software products, AM has worked hand-in-hand with Cogeco to ensure that our requirements were well defined and that our existing network equipment and monitoring systems could be integrated into a newer management solution. AM and Trispec's attentiveness to Cogeco's unique needs, coupled with committed resources, has allowed Cogeco to view AM and its distributor as valued partners," concluded Padbury.
Cogeco Cable, Inc. serves approximately 830,000 subscribers in Quebec and Ontario, Canada, and is evolving to become one of the country's major telecommunications companies. In addition to its video services, Cogeco offers high-speed data access to residential, commercial and institutional subscribers. Cogeco Cable, Inc. is publicly traded on the Toronto stock exchange under (CCA).
