That Barron's article panning Cisco's accounting techniques shows there really is very little new under the investment sun.

Hyperinflating your stock and then generating earnings growth by buying other businesses with lower P/Es is exactly what the conglomerates did during the 1960s boom. Many of those stocks (Gulf and Western, LTV, Textron, etc.) rose fivefold or tenfold and then lost all or most of the gains by the mid 1970s.

Will Cisco stock suffer a similar fate? Would not surprise me in the least.
