This my friends is HUGE!
Just to expand on this a little, it is huge for the following reasons:

1) It creates a new paradigm for wireless penetration. Until now, most analysts look at voice usage for penetration rates. Even though there has been much talk about a wireless internet, it has all been in reference to handsets and "mini-browsers." This indicates that wireless penetration above 100% is possible and perhaps even likely in some markets.

2) It establishes a market for PC-based wireless modems and if successful, proves the validity of offering HDR.

3) QCOM will release the MSM 4500 (1x/HDR) ASIC for commercial delivery in June. This chip will be released into a developing market rather than a purely potential market.

4) Can anyone imagine a GSM-based (GPRS) PC card? Not likely. The dang thing would either burn up available spectrum, battery power, or the computer itself. Wireless modems will likely be all CDMA-based. Even if you have your wireless voice service on a GSM or TDMA network, you'll need to go with a CDMA carrier to get wireless PC cards. That is why HDR in Europe is not so far fetched. After all, you'll still be able to roam on your GSM network for voice while you use the carriers HDR overlay for data.
