Interesting article, Daniel, thanks.
I'm a major cynic about any of the reports on The Kid. I don't believe anyone. What does seem to be consistent with past behavior is the idea that The Kid is being reindoctrinated, right here on our soil and at our expense. But, as a divorced dad, I've also seen what can happen to kids' loyalties when their custodian makes a concerted effort to shift their opinions.
So, whether Elian is just being returned to "his natural state" <g> or is being turned around 180 degrees, I don't know, and it is a bloody certainty that our left wing major news media will never find the truth; at least, not until it is too late for public opinion to make a difference.
My upset with the whole incident is not so much the return to his father, but the Gestapo-like raid that made it happen.
[Ok, go ahead and flame me for using the term "gestapo;" it won't be the first time. But the raid was conducted under the color of an invalid warrant that was only obtained for the sake of appearance. The INS routinely makes similar warrantless raids into "suspected" homes of people they claim are illegal aliens, just like the Gestapo. And, like the Gestapo, they go in with overwhelming force without regard to Constitutional rights of the invaded, shoot anyone that objects, and perform considerable damage, without apology or recompense to injured parties. What happened to people after the "real" Gestapo broke in and terrorized people is another story. I'm only using the analogy for the raid itself.]
