Solv-Ex Corp. responds to false publicity regarding SEC visit to Alberta plant
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 8, 1997--Solv-Ex Corp. (NASDAQ:SOLV) said that statements attributed to staff members of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission in a May 7, 1997 article in the Edmonton Sun are false.
The company reported that it has spoken directly with the SEC staff members to whom statements were attributed by a union official. In response, the SEC staff denied making the comments the article attributed to them.
Solv-Ex said that the SEC staff members, along with two representatives of the British Serious Fraud Office visited its Alberta oil sands plant at the company's invitation on Tuesday, May 7.
Solv-Ex reported that it has requested the SEC to take independent action to correct the false information and to clarify the scope of its investigation.
Solv-Ex has been advised that the SEC investigation relates to the manipulation in Solv-Ex stock in the NASDAQ over-the-counter market; Solv-Ex has provided the investigators with a significant amount of information pointing responsibility for the manipulation to certain New York-based broker-dealers.
