Hi Scared but Hopeful; Re fast SGRAM... I believe that 4.0ns SDR SGRAM has been at least sampled by somebody.

In any case, Samsung does do 4.5ns parts:

These are SDRAM parts, the DDR versions have a lower clock period, 6.0ns:
usa.samsungsemi.com

The bandwidth out of the above 6.0ns DDR 2Mx32 SGRAM is a hot 1.3GB/sec. A 128-bit wide memory built from them would hit 5.3GB/sec.

Note on SGRAM. Basically, the use of the color registers is to allow the drawing of large areas of memory with an identical color. The pixels written to are determined by single bits applied to the memory. If they are 32-bit pixels, then the overall write bandwidth for the operation is improved by a factor of as much as 32. But these aren't really used that much in modern 3D systems, I would guess.
