David, you wrote Now. Oh, people are upset. Sitting on the sidelines. General fear in the population? Nope. Not by a long shot.

Do you have an opinion on what it would take to frighten people? I keep hearing we are not at a bottom until there is blood on the streets and people are committing suicide.

Seriously, is it valuation, inflation, recession or depression that will scare people? Would NAZ 2800 do it? How about NAZ 1400? If you have already anticipated that it may happen then the surprise effect is gone and it is harder to be scared.

Isn't it possible that the bear may just whimper itself away? A long, grinding, demoralizing sideways trend without a 600 point spike down to mark the end?

Personally, I would prefer AG to spike rates down 1% and be done with it. Not likely to happen given his past history.

But unless China invades Taiwan or Silicon Valley gets hit by the big one or some other totally unexpected shock occurs, and given what has already been talked about for bear market ends, I am not sure that we are going to get the inflection point blood bath with a white flag marked 'end of bear'. Of course, now this is scary. <g>
