ASX-Coles Myer Limited Buys Peapod Home Shopping Software
NEWS RELEASE
Coles Myer Ltd (CML) has announced that it has purchased the rights to the source code for both the Application and HTML versions of Peapod software, along with rights in perpetuity to operate the software (only in Australia and New Zealand).
Coles Myer uses the Peapod software as the basis for its online grocery service Coles Online.
In making the announcement Jon Wood, e.colesmyer's Managing Director, said there were a number of benefits that would flow from the purchase.
"We will now he able to develop the software more rapidly and cost-effectively than in the past," he said.
"Previously when Coles Myer wanted to make changes, or have changes approved, these had to be run by Peapod USA for approval or action.
"Having the source code allows us to modify it ownselves so we are more responsive to local needs and customer suggestions, and can develop the software in line with our changing requirements.
"A further benefit in the purchase is that we will no longer pay Peapod royalties.
"The contract excludes Peapod from selling the software to anyone else in Australia and New Zealand for the next three years.
"Our people have developed considerable expertise on the Peapod software. Peapod has recognised the value of our improvements for managing the system in Coles Myer's environment," Mr Wood said.
