DRAM Price Survey] Spot Prices for DRAMs, DIMMs on the Rise
May 10, 2000 (TOKYO) -- The spot prices for 128Mb DRAMs and 128MB DIMMs are rising.
This is because PC sales are brisk, and that has resulted in shortages. However, the current shortage, in part, is believed to have been caused by aggressive purchases by PC makers that anticipate shortages towards the latter half of this year.
A worldwide DRAM price survey conducted by ICIS-LOR, based in London, Houston and Singapore, showed that the 30-day rolling average prices of 128Mb DRAMs (PC133, 16M x 8) for large-volume users between March 23, 2000 and April 21, 2000 were US$14.30 in North America, US$11.60 in Europe and US$13.07 in Asia. Compared to the previous week (30-day rolling average up to April 14), they rose by 0.67 percent in North America, and fell by 3.75 percent in Europe and by 3.17 percent in Asia.
As for prices of memory modules, the spot prices for 128MB dual inline memory modules (DIMMs, PC133) rose by 6.03 percent from the previous week to US$100.29 in North America, by 3.84 percent to US$102.12 in Europe and by 2.78 percent to US$95.05 in Asia.
