WEST BLOOMFIELD, Mich., May 10, 2000 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- CompuSonics
Video Corporation (OTC Bulletin Board: CPVD) announced that it has recently paid
the renewal fees required to maintain its data compression patents in effect in
The United Kingdom, France, Germany, Belgium, Luxembourg and Switzerland.

These foreign patents, as well as the company's Japanese patent, are
counterparts of the corresponding U.S. Patents in which the Company holds an
interest, covering fundamental techniques for digital recording and playback of
audio and video data. The Company previously announced the launch of a formal
program to license these patents. The foreign patents will be offered for
license along with the Company's U.S. patents.

The Company indicated that it has continued to renew and maintain its data
compression patents in key foreign countries in the belief that the foreign
patents contribute additional value to the patent portfolio that the Company
intends to offer for license. These foreign patent rights may be especially
important where prospective licensees have significant manufacturing or sales
operations in foreign countries where the Company enjoys patent protection. The
Company is hopeful that licensing its foreign patent rights along with the U.S.
rights will enhance the royalty-generated revenue stream to the Company in the
event that the Company is successful in its licensing program.

The statements included in this news release concerning predictions of economic
performance and management's plans and objectives constitute forward- looking
statements made pursuant to the safe harbor provisions of Section 21E of the

forward-looking statements. Factors which could cause or contribute to such
differences include, but are not limited to, factors detailed in the Company's
Securities and Exchange Commission filings; the ability of the Company to
determine whether infringements have occurred on its patents, the ability of the
Company to license its technology to other companies in the United States and in
foreign countries, the scope and applicability of the Company's patents as it
relates to technology in the current marketplace, economic downturns affecting
the operations of the Company or any of its business operations, and the
unavailability of financing to complete management's plans and objectives. The
forward-looking statements contained in this press release speak only as of the
date hereof and the Company disclaims any intent or obligation to update these
forward-looking statements.
