You clearly have no firsthand experience of what I am talking about.

Microsoft make lovely little products for small office/home applications, particularly for users who have had their expectations lowered or started out with low expectations due to exclusive exposure to Windows. Their software is a huge and expensive PITA in enterprise environments. Support of desktop Windows in large environments is the most labor-intensive and highly manual proposition I have seen. It defies the notion that computers can be used to automate processes and achieve higher productivity in doing so.

A standard measure of support load is the number of support personnel required per user. In the real world most places, Microsoft products have the poorest user/support ratio of any alternative. If you have Windows, you most likely employ armies of flying monkeys to support it, and that translates to labor cost and administrative overhead.

Perhaps you could give us a little compare and contrast of their enterprise software vs. alternatives after you've been through detox and looked beyond the desktop in front of you.
