Dear Mr. Walker:
You might be interested to know that something like what you suggested in your post was presented to Dr. Cioffi by me at the annual meeting. He did not exactly throw out the idea. He did say he thought the $ were with the RBOCs. He seemed to indicate that there was not sufficient depth of marketing staff to allow them to go out and find ISPs and work with them on such a project. Still, could this idea work? Could Amati begin its own trial right in the Silicon Valley, by
hooking up some loyal and trustworthy volunteers, such as ourselves. I can't speak for anyone else, but I feel Silicon Valley is a prime example of "early adopters." My house is currently wired with ethernet, a la Ipsilon speech at Networld. My suggestion to Cioffi was that Amati HQ become a mini ISP of its own. For the techies on this thread, could it work? Please note that absolutely positive response to a live, working demo of amati hardware at the recent conference. There is no better way to market to people than to SHOW them what a technology can do. Let's talk about this idea. Why should it not work? Jerome Block
