Ed, Ted Williams indeed was amazing.
He missed 5 prime time seasons because of the wars. He played in parts of 19 seasons but in only 13 did he have enough playing time to qualify for league batting statistics. In those 13 years, he led the league in batting average 6 times, in slugging average 9 times, in HRs 4 times, in runs 6 times, and in RBIs 4 times. He led the league in those categories despite playing against the likes of Joe DiMaggio, Mickey Mantle, Jimmie Foxx, Hank Greenberg, Rudy York, Al Rosen, Al Kaline, Harmon Killebrew, Yogi Berra, etc. |
