Maurice-I may join you in this experiment.
I control 30,000 shares of G* and have no restrictions at E*Trade or ML on the stock-it can be shorted. I respect shorts and think shorting definitely has its place in the markets. I don't short personally. Anyway, I may participate if it appears there might be a large group doing this.
By the way, my initial purchases have been in the $20 range on the recommendation of Gilder. The shorts have allowed me to substantially increase my position (and level of risk) getting my cost down to about $14. As you can see, I'm almost 50% underwater.
