While researching on some incredible PRST info, I came across the following press projections from "Digital Printing Report", May issue:
Digital presses vs. direct imaging (plate on press). Cumulative installs end of the year indicated, worldwide.
Digital Presses: 1993-0, 1994-30, 1995-860, 1996-3,284, 1997-6,284, *1998-12,000, *1999-17,000, *2000-23,000.
Dir.Img Presses: 1993-80, 1994-110, 1995-150, 1996-329, 1997-840, *1998-2,100, *1999-5,000, *2000-11,000.
(* projections)
Digital Presses includes Canon, Indigo, Xeikon,(Agfa,Barco,IBM) and Xerox. Direct Imaging includes Heidelberg and Omni Adast. Printing presses operate at 8,000 to 10,000 sheets per hour. A sheet holds at least two pages. Using 9,000 as an average, Digital Imaging presses output 18,000 simplex standard pages per hour. This volume is 8 times that of the totally digital devices.
Appears to me that the Royalties and Fees continue to Presstek for some time. Speaking of plates YEEE HAAAA!!!
