Applied Materials Didn't Apply Itself
By James J. Cramer

Click here for the latest from James J. Cramer. What would have happened if Cisco (CSCO:Nasdaq - news - boards) had missed the revenue and earnings-per-share estimates big-time instead of doing the numbers and raising the bar?

I guess we will find out tomorrow because that's what Applied Materials (AMAT:Nasdaq - news - boards) just did. I like this company very much, but it sure didn't deliver what we were looking for. Not at all. Not one bit.

We were able to sell some right when the number came out, but now it is appreciably lower and we are looking to see if there is something, anything that will make this story seem better than it appears.

That makes us the Kings of Wishful Thinking, methinks.

We will battle it tomorrow.
