I'm inquiring about the lesser gods of CIS/Help-Desk tribe--the forgotten brothers of Clarify, Inference, and Astea, and maybe other forgotten ones that I have never heard of.

My question is regarding their products. Clearly their financial performance has been less than stellar. I wonder why.

Question: compared to current favorites in the group Scopus/Vantive/Remedy:
1) Are their products inferior in technology, implementation, etc,?
2) Or is it simply a matter or poor sales/marketing? (always the management's line-along with poor European economy)
3) Maybe a matter of poor management?

From the posts here, I gather that Clarify may have fallen behind the curve in their products. How about Inference and Astea? These two don't get discussed here.
Inference was mentioned in Barron's as a small cap hi-tech company trading at little more than cash (net of debt) on the balance sheet.

Does any one has any experience with products of these companies?
How about Inference's Case-Based-Reasoning/artificial-intelligence product licensed to Scopus/Vantive/Remedy, etc. Is it an important feature of CIS/help-desk software, or is it no big deal and can be easily substituted with someone else's product?

Do poeple in this thread think these forgotten companies have a future, or will they simply sail into sunset and fade away.

Thanks in advance.
