Cisco is running on Internet time, and is already closing the gap. It is like a tiger on steroids tracking it's prey. It is heading in a certain direction here. Fibre Channel vendors have to run on Internet time or their lead will be put in jeopardy. The move by Qlogic and Ancor addresses this issue. Qlogic and Ancor can help EMC, SUN, Dell, Compaq, and all the other storage networking companies to pull together the FC technology necessary to stop Cisco in it's tracks. This could even help Nortel and Lucent against Cisco if they back EMC, SUN, Compaq etc...
I think the Ancor Qlogic merger guarantees them a bright future in Infiniband, and FC future looks great too, if they can keep things on track and the momentum accelerating.

I am hoping someone out there will tell me I am totally wrong about Cisco's interest in Data Center SANs. That CISCO is only connecting FC SANs with the 10GB Ethernet. Based on the Qlogic conference call, FC still has a 4 year lead over ethernet in the SAN. But time is ticking. Go Ancor, Go Fibre Channel!
