Wow. One of the most visionary alliances in recent biotech history and no reaction from this board.

This is low-risk from the Novartis side. High payouts will only come if Vertex delivers important molecules that address real markets. If Vertex wants to hand off a molecule Novartis doesn't want, they just say no. Apparently, Novartis resources only come in to play when compounds are ready for advanced clinicals.

This is low-risk from the Vertex side. Big Brother is paying the bills, and they (maybe/probably) get co-promotion rights on home runs and get to keep the solid base hits. More astonishing is that Vertex runs the show all the way into early clinicals. This isn't simply a large company liking a biotech's technology, this is Novartis trusting Vertex to make the right decisions throughout the drug discovery process. Who has heard of such a thing?

It sounds too good to be true. Is it?
