Lucius: The key tornado for Qualcomm is yet to come - it is the wireless / internet nexus. And that is Dr J's focus for Qualcomm - the recent "investments" reflect that.

Data is Qualcomm's future; voice is the current tornado.

Many of us find it difficult to think in terms of wireless connections to the internet / intranet using CDMA and HDR soon, and 3rd gen wireless coming up thereafter.

Also it is hard to see the emergence of CDMA and HDR enabled modems in our PC's. We tend to think of "phones" and handhelds with small screens. But the demonstration in North Carolina was for modems and PC cards - neither of which is factored into current predicitions.

And then there is "Bluetooth" within Qualcomm's chips and software for wireless connections among peripherals and "appliances".

The surface is just being scratched as of now.

In sum, the voice tornado is now.

The data tornado is next year.

Not too shabby to have a tornado overlap coming within a year.

Best.
