As may not have been clear from all you have read in this space, Ken elicited warmth and a sense of protection from those who knew him. He was a sweet man with a sense of humor, and he was enterprising, with visions of having a big, positive effect on the world.

In the last months of his life he is said to have been focused and at times brilliant. What he accomplished -- the effects on health and the environment -- has yet to be realized.

In the end he was given a quick exit, as if in conclusion to a life's work.

Rest in peace, Ken. You did good.
