It is hard to screw something like this up so badly. The general area where Los Alamos is located, although it does have shrubbery and brush, has comparatively little vegetation. Los Alamos itself is basically on a mountain, away from the surrounding countryside. My wife and I, when in Santa Fe, once drove a sub- compact rental up the road to Los Alamos, and it was so steep we had to stop, because of the strain on the motor. We were so scared of breakdown that we finished the drive, and basically turned around and went back down the mountain, rather than visit the museum and community. I am having a hard time envisaging how they managed to get the fire up there. By the way, Los Alamos is one of the wealthiest communities in the country, given the peculiar concentration of scientific talent, and the hardship of living in the middle of nowhere. It will cost alot to rebuild........... |
