However, sooner or later the FC SAN field would naturally consolidate. Adaptor makers would reach a revenue and technology plateau, and they would look for a broader product line to expand their revenue potential. Eventually adaptors will become commodities just like 3COM and ethernet. Furthermore, switches and software would give them higher gross margins and more value added.
Also, by eventually combining, the players would create a 1 stop shop providing end to end solutions and guaranteed interoperability.
Finally, if FC wins the mind share game over the FUD that Cisco is spreading about vaporware ethernet for the SAN, then Cisco will simply buy into the FC space.
