I would prefer QCom spending money on R&D than advertise what the difference between CDMA and GSM and TDMA is.

No credible advertising person would suggest that end user advertising even attempt such a differentiation. Such programs fail.

That's why I keep harping on the "benefits", forget the features.

R&D and Advertising are at opposite ends of the product spectrum. You do not do one at the expense of the other.
You instead recognize the need for both, and you fund both.
